Ok so I finally managed to sample Botak Jones, at the Clementi branch. Long story short, over-hyped. Not over-rated since it wasn’t really rated that high.
I ordered the cheese burger, found it too raw for my taste, the cheese flavourless and the fries very artificial.
Botak Jones is a crash course in Americana dining: bland dining of epic proportions. Literally. 2 of every 3 plates I saw, was 66% uneaten, eg the fries, the buns, coleslaw, etc.
Change topic. Why do many Singaporean students public-speak like they’re doing lyrical rap or something equally nauseous?
So Martin Scorsese wins Best Director and The Departed wins Best Picture, both based on another film, Infernal Affairs?
That’s lame. Super Lame.
IMHO Both Babel and Letters from Iwo Jima were robbed. Both these films, good fight. Departed? OMG…
Winning Best Director and Best Picture? Sheesh. Stupid.
So if Andrew Lau had submitted his film to Oscars, would he win? At the most is Best Foreign Film nia! What about Andrew? Fat hope! What about actors Tony and Andy? No chance!
Bullshit if you ask me. LOL Oscars has sunk to a new low…
BOOOO!!!
After the 1st week of CNY, I realised something that kinda hits me like a wet sweaty shirt on a hot and humid afternoon in an open field: I AM FAT!
ARGH…
So why am I not doing something about it? Prolly cuz I’ve kinda given up on the whole fit and trim thing about 5 years ago lol… the uphill climb is just too much for me, considerably more so cuz the hill is so damn slippery! One small misstep, just ONE, means boom I’m back to where I started.
Captain Liposuction, where art thou!?
So SingNet responded to my letter on the 12th of Feb…

SingNet profile wrong due to admin error
I REFER to the letter, ‘Have checks in place to ensure broadband speed’ by Mr Calvine Chew Chee How (ST, Feb 12).
We have contacted Mr Chew and apologised for the inconvenience.
Due to an administrative error, his profile in our system was tied to our 3Mbps service instead of the 10Mbps service he subscribes to. We have since corrected his broadband access profile.
We would like to assure our customers we are committed to providing them with a superior service experience.
Tricia Lee (Ms)
Corporate Communications Manager
SingNet
Interesting how they addressed my problem by getting a lady with a sacharine-sweet voice to call and apologise to me personally, and published the above letter to ST, yet at the same time deftly sidestepped my question on ADSL limits.
Does ignoring it mean an admittance?
Wishing all a happy Golden Pig year! May those who can get angbaos receive a bountiful harvest while those who don’t qualify (old fogeys like me!), may we win big at the tables!
Those who dun qualify for any of the above (LOL!), eat more bahkwa lah! =)
When u start living in a new phase of life u also get to see new things…
Like the scene of a wet market at night, a mere 2 days before CNY.
Lai Lelong! Lelong lelong!
Amazingly noisy and bustling siah! Wonder how the people get to enjoy a quiet night with the market noises downstairs LOL!
You Are…
Fudgehog
You may prefer not to hog the limelight, but everyone counts you as a friend with your likeable temperament, your humble self-depreciating humour and your sincere earnestness. But most importantly, when the chips go down, the you can surely rely on the Fudgehog’s comfortable hump to lean on.
That’s my personality test, for a game called Viva Piñata, a game on the XBox360. I thought it was kinda cute… :)
You can check it out yourself here!
Albeit on a negative note, I do hope that my experience and my telling of it would push the relevant parties along and help everyone else while at it…
Straits Times Forum letter I wrote and got published today.

Have checks in place to ensure broadband speed
I RECENTLY had SingNet Broadband 10Mbps installed and was surprised that my maximum download bandwidth was a mere 3Mbps. The installation technician was clueless so I had to call the SingNet helpdesk.
During our conversation, the helpdesk technician tried to convince me my line was okay, I had the right speed and nothing was wrong. Thirty minutes of troubleshooting and tests later, I managed to convince him there was a problem. He finally arranged for a SingNet technician to come down.
Understandably, I suspect he had merely gone through a checklist, but the approach is likely to convince others nothing is wrong.
I was lucky I noticed the irregularities straightaway. I shudder to think of other SingNet Broadband customers who don’t realise what they get is not as fast as what they paid for. I urge SingNet Broadband customers to verify their broadband speed.
SingNet, as a service provider, needs to formulate a system of checks so that the service is pre-verified for the customer. A mentality of quality assurance should be adopted rather than one of reaction to complaints.
On an interesting technical note, the maximum ADSL broadband speed one can safely achieve is limited by how near one is to SingNet’s infrastructure.
For example, to achieve 25Mbps (SingNet’s fastest line), one must be less than 300m from a SingNet digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM).
Can SingNet guarantee a DSLAM within 300m of every potential 25Mbps customer?
My cousin told me tonight that whenever I say things I give this look that makes people think that I’m not saying the things I am thinking of… like I say the coffee tastes great when I actually think the coffee sucked.
Which btw for the record I thought the coffee was great.
Funnily enough, some people in office think that way about me too!! ARGH…
U know what the weird thing is? All of them who think that way are female. WTF…
More than 1 person has commented that my blog is boring.
Sob…
But if the author is boring, then by association wouldn’t the blog be boring too?
Sob…
Maybe I should do videos of me half-naked in the bathroom lip-syncing to a 5566 number and upload it to YouTube, tho these days it seems more like YouCanBeSuedTube.
On the plus side, I can now watch the entire season of Heroes this weekend HAHAHA!
Today my good friend bought me a sandwich, and not just any sandwich, but a sandwich from Pret a Manger. Sounds like a stupid name right? But apparently it’s a famous UK-based chain which opened shop in Shenton Way.
So she bought me a large triangle sandwich, chicken with avocado. Ok lah, not that bad, with the usual greens and stuff. $3, ok I guess for a grab n go type of thing.
I’m a big sandwich fan myself, and as far as Pret a Manger goes it’s not bad, stacking it up there with O’Briens or Deli-France, certainly better than the run of the mill sandwich.
But my fav is still Subway. Ok technically it’s not really a sandwich (it’s a sub duh!), but having subsisted the better part of my uni days on Subway and uni cafeteria (unifeteria?) sandwiches. That and sasparilla.
Oh… did I mention I LURVE sasparilla? What’s that?? Well, only the base ingredient for root beer! But at some places/countries, you can get sasparilla soft-drinks, which taste different from root beer. Sasparilla and sandwiches accompanied me for nearly 4 years of uni life. I cannot think of my uni days without thinking of my sandwich and sasparilla combo.
Burp!
Great movie with a central theme on communication or rather the lack of it.
I heartily recommend it! Not many people in my showtime tho, at the Grand Cathay. Guess kids these days don’t appreciate movies like this, preferring action and special effects?
Like Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer? Kekeke…
Sands of Iwo Jima seems like a good movie, better than Flags of our Fathers. Seemed more heartfelt with real touching stories.
Was at the NTU Career Fair today and AMD has a booth there. They also setup a really cool contest: Run 2 laps of Need For Speed on their super-rig, clock the best time of the day and walk away with an AMD X2 64 3800+ CPU!
So I happened to walk to it and watch the drivers play. Wow, some are really good but I guess takes practice. Anyway I asked one of the AMD chaps what the fastest time was. Apparently it was down to 2 chaps and the fastest time was 1:37.
So the contender kept trying to beat this time and could only clock around 1:40+ and since you could keep trying, this guy kept trying…
Until around 4pm when it was time to declare the winner, the AMD folks decided to end the contest with one last driver, who was also the contender.
Guess what lap time he managed?
1:36:44! HAHAHAH PWNED!
I spoke at length with one of the AMD guys running the contest and he told me yesterday one chap clocked 1:33 and walked away with the prize. He was standing there watching and when today’s contest ended he gave it another go just for fun. And he clocked 1:33!
I told him good job and went on my way =)
